THE PROJECT

ShotKam is a lightweight camera that attaches to your barrel and automatically records your practice with every recoil to help you achieve better aim. Our team came in to redesign the app, helping to create an improved user experience and an interface design.  We placed focus on the value proposition and enhanced the usability of the app with new features, interactions, and style. 

RESEARCH

To get a better understanding of the competitive landscape we carried out a comparative analysis, targeting published mobile applications for IoT devices. This gave us valuable insight, and helped identify our product’s strengths and weaknesses. Using other research methods, we narrowed down the scope and effective strategies.
Looking closely at each relevant comparable, we laid out, analyzed, and studied various UX flows to understand why those specific choices were made. 
 

USER EXPERIENCE

Some of the new features include an onboarding process that acclimates users to the technology, and a menu that includes an app tutorial, a user manual, and accessibility controls. The app also allows you to easily download each shot right to your iPhone or Tablet, as well as replay the videos frame-by-frame to learn how to correct your swing.

DESIGN SYSTEM

With accessibility and usability in mind, we activated a black and white palette with a primary blue to create an easily legible and potent color system. We turned to the modern sans serif font, Gilroy, to communicate titles and text descriptions clearly and effectively. 

APP DESIGN

Following an iterative design and validation process, we were able to move and adapt rapidly to elevate the design and function of the app. Users can now access the app even when they don't have the camera. They can easily navigate through their videos, watch tutorials, calibrate their device, and transfer recordings to other devices. 

APP DEVELOPMENT

Our developers integrated the company's proprietary Ambrella API and successfully built the app for WiFi module integration on native iOS (Swift) and Android (Kotlin). The result is a fast and responsive app elegantly designed to include gifs, tutorials, and user-shortcuts to native phone capabilities (i.e. connecting to WiFi).
